Last week, we talked about 3 ways to use ChatGPT, as an SDR, that will take your knowledge to the next level.
This week, let’s talk about how you can use it for prospecting.
ChatGPT is your virtual assistant to be more productive and be more creative with your outreach.
Let’s go:
TL;DR
Make a boolean search from a list for LinkedIn Sales Nav
Make a list of your customers' competitors
Research your accounts
Research your prospects
Summarize 10k reports
Give ideas for your outreach
Rewrite your emails
Bonus
7 ways you can use ChatGPT for prospecting as an SDR
#1 - Make a boolean search from a list for LinkedIn Sales Nav
My prompt:
Make a boolean search for my customers list with the operator: OR
My customers: Vestiaire collective, JWPlayer, AngelList, Pennylane, Snedinblue, Veo, Nexbite, Teachable, Acima, and Pritify.
Here’s the reply:
Now, I just need to copy past this list into Sales Nav.
If I have a list of 50 or more customers, it’s quicker to use ChatGPT to help me write this boolean search.
Instead of doing it manually.
#2 - Make specific lists of accounts
Something I use to do manually is to create a list of accounts.
ChatGPT is great to create lists for you.
My favorite one: customers’ competitors.
This is pretty a game-changer because at Chili Piper I was doing this manually, and got great results.
When I joined Chili Piper, in 2020, we got Hopin (virtual events platforms) as a new customer, and the virtual events segment was growing really fast at that time.
I made a list of 17 competitors of Hopin. I booked 5 of them and sourced 1 new logo.
Let’s do it for Castor.
My prompt:
Find 5 competitors for each one of my customers.
My customers: Vestiaire collective, JWPlayer, AngelList, Pennylane, Sendinblue, Veo, Nexbite, Teachable, Acima, and Printify.
Here’s ChatGPT reply:
Now I can research those accounts, and then add them to my prospecting pipeline.
You can be more specific about the country.
You can use this for your demo requests, meetings you’ve booked, etc.
#3 - Research accounts
I use ChatGPT to help me understand my accounts, and how a data team helps the business.
Prompt:
I'm prospecting a new account: Riot Games. Give me a business overview of the company with a focus on the data team. I want to know their business model. Their major markets. How big is the data team What tools they use. The leadership team.
Reply:
Prompt:
Act like a top sales development representative, give me 10 triggers (recent hires, events) that I can use to prospect Riot Games. Those triggers need to be related to the challenges I solve below: The biggest challenges my data catalog product solves: Data Discovery and Accessibility Data Governance and Compliance Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
The reply:
#4 - Research prospects
Here’s a example with one of my prospects in Peru:
Step 1: save my prospect's LinkedIn profile into a PDF.
Step 2: I copy the text from the PDF, then use the prompt below.
The prompt:
Based on the my prospect LinkedIn profile below.
Give me 5 trigger I can use to start a conversation about the challenges we solve with my data catalog product
The biggest challenges my data catalog helps with:
Data Discovery and Accessibility
Data Governance and Compliance
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
[[Copy past of the PDF created by LinkedIn]]
The reply:
#5 - Summarize 10k reports and earning calls
Annual reports are time-consuming to read and get valuable information.
ChatGPT is great to read it quicker for you.
Prompt:
Act like a top Sales Development representative.
What's the last 10k report you have about Eventbrite. From this 10k What are the 5 main points that are relevant for my product: a data catalog. That I can use in my outreach to get attention from the executive team. Don't write an email just give me the points.
Reply:
PS: really soon, ChatGPT will have access to the internet, so you will be able to use that for the latest 10k reports, and earning calls.
Right now, you don’t have access to the most recent ones. You need to copy past manually certain parts of the reports into ChatGPT.
#6 - Give me ideas for cold emails
I love to use ChatGPT to get ideas for my outreach.
As an example, I’m prospecting Riot Games in California, they developed League of Legends, and I’m contacting their data team.
I use ChatGPT to help me create emails: to say how a data catalog could help and compare it to the video game: League of Legends.
ChatGPT is great to give you ideas about your product, and a specific theme.
My prompt
Act like the funniest stand up comedian in the world.
Write an email with 75 words (or less) that connect's my prospect's job into buying my product, but you must make it very funny, and must have a reference of League of Legends.
My prospect the Head of Data at Riot Games.
My product is a data catalog for data teams.
My prospect job: Act as a change agent for the organization, empowering them to become data-driven and digitally transformed
Don't include "I hope this email finds you well"
Reply:
The reply is a great start because now I have ideas to write my emails for Riot Games.
#7 - Rewrite your emails
Rewrite your emails with a different tone, or make them shorter.
(Learned this one thanks to Gali Belleli, thank you 🙏 )
Last week, I use those prompts to rewrite my emails.
English is not my native language so sometimes it’s hard for me to come up with different words, change the tone, or make a different version of my emails.
ChatGPT is great for this.
Make this email 50 words or less.
The email: Hello William, saw you shared Chad Sanderson's post about "Modern data tooling is a bottleneck for scaling trustworthy pipelines".
What do you use to fix that at GoodRX?
Asking because I think our data catalog might help you with that. Let me know if you would like to learn more about this.
The reply:
Don’t like the subject line, but love the shorter version of the email.
Another example:
Make this email 75 words or less.
The email: Hello {{first_name}} - it looks like you’re using dbt.
How much time does your team spend documenting data instead of focusing on major projects?
Our tool keeps your data’s documentation close to your code. It involves pushing table and column descriptions back to dbt. Other data leaders saw their team productivity increase by 20%.
Think something like this could help?
The reply:
#8 - Bonus: what’s coming for ChatGPT
If you can access the latest version of ChatGPT (which I can't do right now), you'll be able to use it to browse the internet.
Once you have access, you can utilize it for finding the most recent annual reports or creating lists of companies for 2023.
Here's a sample prompt you will be able to use:
Give me the top 10 rapidly expanding industries from the past year and list 10 fast-growing companies in each industry.
This will revolutionize prospecting.
I'm extremely excited about this, as it will be a great tool to help with annual reports and a lot of things.
Recap
Make a boolean search from a list for LinkedIn Sales Nav
Make a list of your customers' competitors
Research your accounts
Research your prospects
Summarize 10k reports

Bonus
ChatGPT is not going to give you all the answers for prospecting.
But it’s great to level up your prospecting skills: be more productive, and more creative.
And you? How do you use ChatGPT for prospecting?
Would love to see what works for you.
That's all for this Sunday.
Quick Reminder: If you like my emails please do “add to address book” or reply.
