How to get prospects to open your cold emails (without tricking them)
Today's newsletter takes about 2 minutes to read.
I'm going to share with you 7 subject lines that get prospects to open your cold email without tricking them.
The 2 goals of your subject line are:
must stop the reader from scrolling their inbox
to get an open.
Unfortunately, a lot of people want to trick their prospects to open their cold emails or ask for meeting.
Here're 7 type of subject lines you can use in your cold emails:
#1 An action you took:
When you prospect with different channels. Mention your other touches. It helps to build familiarity with your name and get an open.
just called
my voicemail
#2 Your company name
Simple and effective.
Love this subject line because it helps with building awareness about your company, if your prospect doesn't know your company.
Example for me:
Chili Piper
#3 Open loop
What's an "open loop"? It's a concept that, in the telling of stories, drives our brains to naturally want to seek out some sort of conclusion.
So with subject lines prospects want to open your email to find out what happens next.
Elric, here's a new idea
an idea for your website
quick question, Elric
dealing with this?
open to this?
#4 Their experience
Love to this subject line with prospects who moved from a company using Chili Piper to a company who is a prospect. Or a prospect who just started a new job.
Talkpush ➡️ Chili Piper - {{Previous company}} ➡️ {{New company}}
#5 via a referral
Mentioning a common connection helps with open rates.
Because it signals you’re not a stranger.
So if a person recommends you to contact another person, mention it in your subject line.
Examples:
Elric suggested I contact you
via Elric
This one below is not a referral, but mentioning an executive in the subject line works well when you use an interview or an article they wrote.
Alina Vandenberghe's words, not mines - {{Name of the CEO}}'s words, not mines
#6 Something about them (or their company)
If you personalize your outreach, you can mention it in your subject line.
People who create content loves to see that people read or watch their content.
The content needs to be relevant to how you can help them.
about your LinkedIn post
your interview
your LinkedIn article
Same with their company, you can mention something about their website or their press release, for example:
your demo form
Elric, question about your website
#7 Last touch
Effective with your last touch of a cadence or when a prospects ghosted you.
Did I lose you?
Thanks for reading.
